Maze is a Unity based game which is not fun oriented but aimed at provoking thoughts. In this game, I want to discourse conflicts between Social Conformity and Individual Autonomy.

Why people conform to the society?

What plays an important role in this process?

Precedents

Most of the precedents are psychological experiments which have  proved that many individuals are likely to

do some terrible things when faced with requirement of social conformity. It’s dangerous for the public to lose their autonomy and conform to the society blindly.

Design Concept

I want to design a project which can help people realize the dangerous aspects of conformity and provoke thoughts about whether they should follow the public or follow their own heart.

MAZE is a metaphor which indicates life choices we may face with in our daily life. In each corner of the maze, we will be forced to make choices to decide which path we should go to and to find the exit.

Instead of traditional wall, I build TV wall as the structure of the maze. In each TV, some propaganda videos are playing on loop. It indicates how media may effect the public.

In the Maze, there are several people standing in front of the main player and walk towards some certain paths, and the player needs to consider whether they should follow those people or not. Those people may lead the player to some dead corner or wrong way to make the player realize that they may not know the right path as well. When deciding which to follow, identity plays an important role as well. If you are white, you may more likely to follow other whites instead of people who share more differences with you.

Another secret in this game is that player don't need to walk inside of the maze to find the exit, they can actually jump out of the wall directly and end the game. That is a revolutionary action and wait to be discovered by the player themselves.
